Greensboro College Pride Men’s Soccer Falls To Methodist 1-0

FAYETTEVILLE, NC—The Greensboro College Pride men’s soccer team suffered their first USA South loss of the season to The Monarchs of Methodist University.

Methodist would get on the board in the 13th minute, when Eric McGinnis headed in a set piece to give Methodist a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Greensboro would get a look on goal as Scott Faytol and George Dimopoulos had their shots blocked by The Monarchs Defense.

In the second half, both team battled back and forth with neither team able to find the back of the net. The Pride had an opportunity in the mid part of the half when Dimopoilos put a shot on frame that went just high of the crossbar.

Despite the 1-0 loss, Greensboro College held a 12-7 advantage in shots, with four of them being on goal. Manbi Nyepon took the loss despite making three saves.

Following the loss, Head Coach John Trice had this to say, “This was a tough result to a very experienced Methodist team. We must start faster in the first half on the road to get results, but our guys fought very hard in the second half and were unlucky not equalize. It is vital that we refocus and get ready for this tough road stretch starting with Southern Virginia on Thursday.”

Greensboro College will fall to 3-3-2 on the season and 1-1 in USA South play. The Pride will return to action, on Thursday, September 26 when the play at Southern Virginia. Game time is set for a 7pm start.
