Guilford College in the Charlotte XC Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Andris Goncarovs ran the sixth-fastest eight-kilometer time in school history Saturday at the Charlotte XC Invitational at McAlpine Park, leading the Quakers to an eighth-place finish in the 16-team College Division section of the race. His time of 25 minutes, 34.6 seconds was a personal best, beating his previous record of 25:34.6, which was recorded at the same race in 2012.

Goncarovs finished with the 14th-best overall mark of all runners who participated, a field which included many top Division I schools.

David Cason finished ninth in the College Division with a time of 25:54.2, also a personal-best and the 11th-fastest mark in school history. He was followed by Chad Norton, who finished in 14th place with a 26:21.0 time.

In the women’s race sophomore Rebecca Reyna recorded the seventh-fastest six-kilometer time in school history with a 25 minutes, 9.0 second mark, the 65th-best time in the 117-woman field. Guilford finished 15th out of 17 teams in its division.

Sophomore Naomi Madaras set a personal–best with a 26:22.6 time. She finished in 83rd place.

Both Quakers teams return to action Saturday, October 5th at the Hagan Stone Classic in Pleasant Garden, N.C.
