College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Takes Fifth at Gordin Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Guilford College shot 295 in Tuesday’s final round to place fifth at the Gordin Classic at the Columbus Country Club. The Quakers shot 290-296-881 to finish 18 shots behind tournament winner Wittenberg University, which blistered the par-72, 6,968-yard course with a seven-under-par 281 Tuesday. Wittenberg shot 863 (-1) over the 54 holes and ended up 13 strokes ahead of second-round leader St. John Fisher College (876), which placed second. Transylvania University (877) shot 287 Tuesday and jumped into third place, one shot better than fourth-place Methodist University (878).

Guilford freshman Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) shared team-low scoring honors Tuesday with a one-over 73 and finished tied for 10th place at 70-76-73-219. Teammates Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) and Drew Thompson were one stroke behind in a share of 12th place at 220. The Quakers’ Dallas Page (Reidsville, N.C./ Rockingham County (Averett)) shot 73 Tuesday and finished tied for 26th at 224. Guilford’s Travis Tolbert shot 83-77-74-234 and shared 51st place.

Wittenberg’s John Chaney shot a four-under 68 Tuesday and claimed medalist honors with a four-under 212 over 54 holes. Second-round leader Mason Stutler (213) of Methodist finished in second place, one shot behind Chaney. The Monarchs’ Jeff Wells took third at 215.
