College Volleyball Final – Guilford 3, Hollins 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Brittany Freeman put away a match-high 17 kills on .310 hitting in Guilford College’s 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball win over visiting Hollins University Tuesday night. The Quakers prevailed, 25-17, 25-23, 25-18, improving their overall record to 7-10 (3-3 ODAC). Hollins falls to 3-16 (1-5 ODAC).

Freeman had four kills and the Quakers took advantage of 15 different kinds of Hollins errors in the opening set. The visitors rebounded in the second set and opened a 10-4 lead, thanks in part to eight hitting errors by Guilford. The Quakers battled to tie the game at 12-12, but Hollins pulled away for a 20-17 lead. Following a Guilford timeout, Freeman put away five of her nine second-set kills, which helped her team finish the set on an 8-3 run and take a 2-0 lead.

Guilford’s Kelsey Ruehling had seven kills on .500 hitting, plus two service aces and five digs for the Quakers. Taylor Whitley chipped in with six kills, 29 assists, two service aces and nine digs. Meredith Foscue picked up a club-best 10 digs.

Rikki Martinez paced Hollins with eight kills. Jessie Deese added five putaways and six digs. Lela Moore had 17 assists and Haley Ortiz scooped up a match-high 15 digs.

The Quakers continue their six-match home stand Thursday (10/3) versus Ferrum College at 6:30 p.m.
