Elon Cross Country Competes at Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C. – A few members of the Elon cross country teams competed at the Mountaineer Open today, Oct. 4, as the women’s team finished fourth in the 5K race, while the men raced to a sixth-place standing in its 8K run.

Sabina Bains was the top finisher for the Phoenix women, who was competing without its normal top seven. Bains ran a time of 19:42.08, followed by Jackie Madden’s mark of 19:53.45. Kaitlin Stober was the next to cross the finish line for the maroon and gold with a time of 20:15.98, while Emily Dunne (20:29.95), Amanda Parker (20:31.31) and Brennan McDavid (20:35.14) rounded out the team scores.

On the men’s side, Nick Schneider was the male top finisher for Elon with a time of 26:07.61. James Stevenson was the next to cross the line for the Phoenix at 26:15.21, followed by Ari Rothschild and his mark of 26:24.89.

Nick Foley (26:59.34), Adam Bernstein (27:27.52), Ian O’Leary (27:52.74) and Ryan Gwaltney (28:02.61) rounded out the final scores for the Phoenix men.

Virginia Tech swept the meet on the men’s and women’s side.

The Phoenix women top seven and the men’s pair of Luis Vargas and Ben Perron will compete at the Greater Louis Classic tomorrow, Oct. 5.
