Greensboro College Pride Men’s Soccer Upends Averett in Double Overtime 2-1

GREENSBORO, NC– The Prides men soccer team (6-4-2, 2-2 USA South) defeated Averett (4-6-1, 1-2 USA South) 3-2 in double overtime on Saturday Afternoon. Greensboro got the game winner 19 seconds into the start of the second overtime period.

Kyle Giscombe got the game winner, when he beat the keeper off a deflection from a strong shot by Craig Gage to win 3-2. The Pride held a seven to one shot advantage in the overtime periods.

Greensboro got on the board three minutes into the game, when Giscombe beat a defender down the left side of the field and beat the keeper for the early 1-0 lead. The Pride extended the lead when Drew Clukey put a one timer in the back of the net that was assisted on by Gage making it 2-0.

Averett got on the board in the 38:16 mark of the first period to make it 2-1 going into the half. The Cougars tied the game at 77:22 which forced the game into overtime.

The Pride outshot the Cougars 21-11 in the game. Giscombe led the way with five shots. Liam Buckley had three shots. Manbi Nyepon picked up the win making five saves.

Greensboro will return to action on Saturday, October 12 at Huntingdon. The kickoff is slated for 3:30 P.M.
