Greensboro College Pride Volleyball Drops Two USA South Matches on Saturday

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College volleyball team (10-13, 5-7 USAS) dropped a pair of matches in a USA South quad match at home on Saturday. The Pride fell in the first game to Covenant 3-1, then 3-0 to Maryville.

Covenant took control of the first game from the start en route to a 25-12 win. Greensboro bounced back however, taking an early 5-0 lead in the second set. After both sides went back and forth, The Pride seized control of the game with a late three point rally, winning it 26-24.

In the third set, The Pride never fell behind by more than three points. Greensboro had an opportunity at 26-25 to take the set but came up short, dropping it 28-26. Convenant went on to win the last set 25-18.

Liz Widenhosue led the way with 18 kills, and Dallas Hasty contributed with 14 kills and 14 digs. Megan Smith served up two aces. Cortland Phillips passed for a match high 39 assists.

In the night cap, The Pride was unable to get things going against Maryville. Greensboro fell in all three sets, 25-19, 25-10, and 25-15.

Widenhouse again led the way with 10 kills. Smith had one block on defense. Phillips passed for a team high 18 assists.

The Pride will look to rebound on the road Monday at Randolph at 7 p.m. The Pride will then return home on Wednesday night against William Peace at 7 p.m. in Hanes Gym. Greensboro will be making this their dig pink night. Those in attendance can purchase raffle tickets and participate in a serving challenge for prizes.
