HPU’s LaCoste Named Big South Runner Of The Week

High Point University redshirt-sophomore Jeff LaCoste has been named Big South Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced on Friday. LaCoste was the top Div. I collegiate finisher at the Blue Ridge Open last Friday, Oct. 18.

LaCoste finished the 8K race in Boone, N.C. with a time of 24:37.06. He placed as the top Division I finisher and was fourth overall. HPU finished in sixth-place as a team at the meet and were the top finishers among the eight competing Big South schools.

It was the second consecutive race that LaCoste led the Panthers. LaCoste came in 22nd at the nationally-competitive Virginia Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 28 with a time of 24:14.9. He also finished in third place overall crossing the line in 23:59.58 at the Furman University Classic on Sept. 14.

This is the third time an HPU runner has been named the conference Runner of the Week this year. Senior Patrick Crawford was twice selected for the honor in September.

High Point will race again next Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista, Va. at the Big South Championship. The team competed on the championship course on Sept. 21 at the VMI Invitational, placing second behind Liberty.
