David Long Leads HPU Men’s Golf After Day One Of Bridgestone Intercollegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team posted a team score of 309 in the weather-shortened first day of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate hosted by UNC Greensboro at the Grandover Resort. Freshman David Long was HPU’s top finisher with a 74 in the opening round.

The Bridgestone Golf Collegiate was originally scheduled for 36 holes on Saturday but frost pushed back the tee times and forced the opening day to be shortened to 18 holes. The tournament will wrap up on Sunday with 18 holes, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The Panthers are 14th after the first round with a team score of 309.

Long birdied three of the final four holes to finish two-over with a score of 74. He is tied for 22nd. Freshman Phil Oweida carded a 76 to finish four-over in 45th place with a round to play.

Sophomore McKay Tye posted a 79, which puts him tied for 69th. Freshman Jack Sides came in with an 80 to stand in 74th place after the first round.

Junior LJ Georgetti rounds out High Point’s scores with an 86.

North Carolina leads the tournament with a 288, followed closely by host, UNC Greensboro with a team score of 290. North Carolina’s Henry Do is the individual leader with a four-under 68.
