Eastern Guilford High Football Field Named for Tommy Grayson

At its meeting Thursday, the Guilford County Board of Education approved a proposal to name the football field at Eastern High after former coach and teacher Tommy Grayson, who retired in 2002.

Thomas Tucker Grayson served as a teacher and mentor at the school for 17 years and coached multiple sports, including football, wrestling and baseball. The nomination was submitted by Howard H. Harvell on behalf of the Eastern Guilford Athletic Booster Club.

In his nomination, Harvell wrote of Grayson’s determination and ethics, both on the field and in the classroom. “Coach Grayson was always pushing you to achieve above what you may think was good enough,” he wrote. “He saw what you could be if you put your full potential into what you were doing and then challenged you to get to that point.”

Grayson has been inducted into three athletic halls of fame and is still active in the Eastern Guilford athletics community.
