HPU Men’s Lacrosse Teams Up With Vs. Cancer Foundation

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s lacrosse program teamed up with Vs. Cancer Foundation to raise money for kids’ cancer research. Members of the team raised over $5,000 and shaved their heads to raise awareness on Friday morning.

The team has already raised over $5,000 and will continue to accept donations throughout the fall semester. Half of all proceeds will benefit national childhood cancer research and the other half will go directly to children at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem.

“It is great to be involved with a foundation that is doing such great work,” said redshirt-sophomore defenseman Nick Bittner. “We have spent a lot of time this fall raising money for a worthy cause and shaving our head to support kids with cancer.”

The Vs. Cancer Foundation was started by cancer survivor and former North Carolina baseball player Chase Jones who was on hand this morning to watch the HPU players get their heads shaved.

“I reached out to the coaching staff with the idea that the men’s lacrosse team could help raise money and awareness for kids with cancer by shaving their heads,” Jones said. “The team really rallied around the idea and did a great job reaching out to their friends and family to raise over $5,000. They followed through today and cut off a lot of hair.”
