College Men’s Golf Results – Greensboro Leads After 18 Holes of Jensen-O’Briant Memorial

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College’s John Grimes shot one-over-par 71 and teammate Greg Pappas carded a 73 Monday as the Pride grabbed a two-stroke lead in the O’Briant-Jensen Memorial Golf Tournament at the Sedgefield Country Club-Pete Dye Course. Hampden-Sydney College put two individuals in the top seven and shot 295, good enough for second place. Seven-time tournament champion Methodist University (297), Averett University (298) and tournament host Guilford College (302) round out the top five squads in the 18-team event.

Averett’s Brandon Grogan fired a three-under 67 Monday on the 7,002-yard layout in northwest Greensboro. He leads the 96-man field by two shots over Guilford individual Nicholas Shedd and Methodist’s Mason Stutler, both of whom carded one-under 69. Hampden-Sydney’s Brian Burt, Berry (Ga.) College’s Tommy McCloskey and Averett’s Andy Thorne each shot 70 and share fourth place.

Greensboro also got solid outings from Christopher Cox, who shares 14th place after Monday’s 74, and Nick Peoples, who sits 20th after shooting 75.

Guilford’s Tanner Gross and Drew Thompson both shot a team-best 73 Monday and share 10th place overall. Rookie Brad White scored for the Quakers with a 77 and Dallas Page checked in with a 79.

The 36-hole tournament concludes Tuesday, starting at 8:30 a.m.. It is named for former Guilford golf coach Jack Jensen and boosters Tom and Bettie O’Briant. The event has been held annually since 1978 when it was named the Guilford Invitational. This year’s event features six teams ranked in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll, including fourth-ranked Guilford and sixth-ranked Methodist.
