Greensboro College Men’s Soccer Blanks Ferrum 2-0 in USA South Quarterfinal Match

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro men’s soccer team (11-5-2, 6-3 USAS) shutout Ferrum College (12-8, 5-4 USAS) 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the USA South tournment on Saturday. The Pride used two first half goals en route to the victory.

The Pride got on the board at the 17:29 mark when Shaun Watt captalized on the Ferrum keepers mistake for the early 1-0 lead. Greensboro extended the margin when Drew Clukey volleyed home a cross off the right side from Earl Floyd making it 2-0. The score remained the same going into the break.

In the second half, both sides had four shots apiece but none found the back of the net. The Pride defense was able to maintain the shutout for the 2-0 victory.

Juan Vivas and Clukey led the way with two shots, with one on frame.Greensboro outshot their opponets 10-6, and a 3-2 on corners Logan Rohde picked up the shutout in goal making four saves.

“Conference tournament games are always tough and this match certainly was that. I give Ferrum a lot of credit; they made it difficult from the opening whistle. Our guys took their chances well and I am proud of them for their effort,” said coach Trice following the game.

The Pride advances to the semi-final round on Friday at Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Virginia. Greensboro will play at 7:30 p.m. agains the winner of Maryville and North Carolina Weseleyan.
