FOREST, Va. – Guilford College junior Nick Shedd (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) captured the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Men’s Golf Player of the Week Award Monday. Shedd, a first-time winner of the league’s weekly prize, joins teammate Tanner Gross as Guilford recipients this fall.

Playing as an individual, Shedd captured his first collegiate medalist honor by winning the 96-man O’Briant-Jensen Memorial Oct. 28-29 at the Sedgefield Country Club-Dye Course. He opened with a career-best 69, one under par, and followed with a 72 for a 36-hole score of 141, two strokes ahead of first-round leader Brandon Grogan of Averett University. His second-round 72 was nine strokes better than the day’s average score.

The win moved Shedd into first place among the Quakers’ stroke average leaders with a 73.75 over four rounds this fall. His average stands third among ODAC contestants who have played at least three rounds. He opened the year with a 78-76-154 at the Tournament Town Preview at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro Sept. 22-23.

Coach Corey Maggard’s Quakers placed second at the O’Briant Jensen Memorial, their fourth top-five finish in as many fall events. Guilford is ranked fourth in the current Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll and fifth in the Golfstat.com Division III Head-to-Head Ratings. The Quakers return to the links Feb. 24-25 at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate.
