Greensboro College Pride Men’s Soccer to Face Salisbury in NCAA First Round

The Greensboro College Pride men’s soccer team will make their 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2013. The Pride will square off against the Seagulls of Salisbury University as the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament Committee announced on Monday afternoon.

The game will be played on the campus of Salisbury University on Saturday, November 16th.

The Pride is coming off of their win in the USA South Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday night, pushing their unbeaten streak to 5 games in a row. With the win, Greensboro heads into the NCAA tournament with an overall record of 13-5-2, while the Seagulls are sporting a record of 17-3 after earning the Capital Athletic Conference’s automatic bid.

The two teams are no stranger to each other, facing off 17 times in program history with The Pride holding an 11-5-1 edge in the overall series. The last matchup between the two schools was in September of 2010 in the St. Mary’s College Classic, with Salisbury winning the game by a 3-0 score.

After the pairings were announced Head Coach John Trice had this to say, “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Tournament and our program is proud to represent the USA South Conference. Salisbury University has had a tremendous year and we are excited to have an opportunity to compete against them. Our preparation and focus will be key this week and we are excited for an opportunity to play among the nation’s best this weekend.”

The other first-round match to be played in Salisbury on Saturday will feature defending national champion Messiah College against Centenary (N.J.) College.

The championship bracket consists of 61 teams, three of which received first-round byes. Nineteen sites will host four teams for first- and second-round competition Nov. 16-17. Second-round winners will advance to one of four section sites on Nov. 22-24. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the national semifinals, which take place at Toyota Field in San Antonio on Dec. 6, with Trinity (Tx.) University and the San Antonio Sports Foundation serving as co-hosts. The national championship game will be played on Dec. 7.
