Game Report on Page-Southwest Guilford boys basketball from Coach Vlaz

Courtesy of Coach Greg Vlazny with Southwest Guilford Boys Basketball:

The Cowboys of Southwest hit the road again tonight to face off agains the Pirates of Page High School. These two schools have faced off in several summer scrimmages in recent summers but haven’t played in a regular season game in several years.

The Pirates came out the gate with a head of steam jumping to an 8-2 lead. But the Cowboys quickly responded with an 8-2 spurt of their own to tie the game at 10 with 3:30 to go. After trading a few baskets, the Cowboys used a quick spurt at the end of the frame to take a 23-19 lead after the first.

The second quarter opened with a Cowboy basket, but unfortunately for the visitors it would be a several possessions before they got back on track. The Pirates used the energy from a nice crowd to fuel a doubling up of the visitors in the frame 24-12 to take a 53-45 lead headed into the break.

The third quarter was back and forth the entire frame with neither team gaining and true momentum, with the hosts eventually taking a 60-50 margin headed into the final quarter.

The final frame was a microcosm of the entire game tonight and last night for the Cowboys as the ball refused to go in the basket from anywhere on the floor as well as the ball wouldn’t bounce their way. The Pirates pulled away for an 87-67 victory for the hosts.

The Cowboys were led by Ben Ferguson with 16, 4 Rebs, and DJ Chamblee with 11, 4 Reb, 2 Ast, and 2 Stls. The Pirates were led by Jeremy Harris with 25.
