Elon Women’s Basketball Phoenix to Close Out 2013 Against Aggies in Alumni Gym

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (5-7) returns to Alumni Gym tomorrow, Dec. 31, for its 2013 finale against North Carolina A&T (7-2) at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for all youth 12 and under.

Last Time Out
Elon dropped its last outing at West Virginia over the weekend, 89-56, in its first game after the holiday break. Despite the loss, the Phoenix had three players score in double figures. Kelsey Harris and Sam Coffer each put up 11 points, while Jenifer Rhodes posted 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Scouting the Aggies
North Carolina A&T is 7-2 on the season after falling to George Washington in its last game, 80-54, on Dec. 21. Prior to that, the Aggies had won seven straight, including wins over SoCon programs Davidson and Appalachian State. A&T has two players averaging in double figures in Tracy King (13.9 ppg) and Christina Carter (13.8 ppg). As a team, the Aggies average 73.1 points per game, while holding opponents to 54.9.

The Series
Elon owns the all-times series between the two programs, 10-6, which dates back to 1980. However, the Aggies have won the last four meetings and five of the last six. Last year, the teams played in Greensboro, N.C., on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve as the Aggies claimed a 75-65 victory.

Elon will resume conference play and face local SoCon rival UNCG on Saturday, Jan. 4, in Greensboro, N.C. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in Flemming Gym.
