Elon Women’s Basketball Phoenix and Wildcats Set to Face Off Saturday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (5-9, 1-2 SoCon) will make its first true conference road trip of the season when it travels to Davidson, N.C., for a game on Saturday, Jan. 11, to face the Davidson Wildcats (6-9, 3-1 SoCon) in a 2 p.m. tip.

Last Time Out
A late surge in the second half put UNCG past the Phoenix in its last game on Saturday. The Spartans won the game, 73-62, after a 9-2 run to close out the game in the final three minutes. Despite the loss, Elon saw a career-high 19 points and nine field goals from Shannen Cochraham. Kelsey Harris posted 12 points off her six field goals, while Sam Coffer hauled down a team-high seven boards.

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson is coming off a 72-64 loss to Chattanooga on Monday. The Wildcats have recorded wins over Wofford, Furman and Samford so far for a 3-1 start to the conference season. Davidson is second in the league in scoring offense (69.8 ppg), but ranks last in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score 75.3 points/game. The team is led by senior Laura Murray who averages 18.9 points per game and ranks second in the league in scoring. The Wildcats have two other players scoring in double figures in Hannah Early (14.2) and Dakota Dukes (12.9).

The Series
Davidson has the advantage in the all-time series, 18-7, having won two of the three meetings last season. Each team won on its home court and the Wildcats claimed a 71-61 victory over the Phoenix in the SoCon Tournament semifinals.

Painting Points
Elon matched its season-high for points in the paint at UNCG on Jan. 4. The Phoenix posted 40 points in the paint with the help of nine field goals and 18 points by Shannen Cochraham.

Looking Ahead
Elon will continue on its weekend road trip, playing next at Georgia Southern on Monday, Jan. 13. Tip is set for 7 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga.
