Strong First Half Help Push Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Pride To 73-65 Victory

GREENSBORO, NC — Greensboro College freshman Devan Gregory lead the way, as the Pride men’s basketball team defeated Barber Scotia on Tuesday night by a final score of 73-65.

Gregory got things started for Greensboro with an early basket that was part of an early 6-0 run, putting the Pride up early 8-2 just 1:30 into the game. Over the next six minutes of the game Greensboro was able to pull out to their largest lead of the game at 22-9 with 13:01 left on the first half clock. During the stretch that allowed the Pride to pull away, three different players found the book with Damian Dixon scoring four of his eight points in the game. For the remainder of the half, Greensboro was able to hold their lead stable, going into the half up by a 40-25 score.

Coming out of the break, the Sabers were able to climb back into the game pulling the Greensboro lead down to single digits at 46-37 with 14:24 remaining on the clock. After Barber Scotia pulled to within single digits, they continued to fight bringing the score to within five with 9:29 left in the game. Following the Sabers run Greensboro was able to extend the lead back out to as many as 13 over the next three minutes. Brandon Pascucci gave the Pride a much needed spark of the bench, connecting on his second three pointer of the game with a Saber defender in his face. Down the stretch, the Saber attempted to get back into the game again, but the Pride was able to hold on for the 73-65 win.

Greensboro College had two players scoring in double figures in the contest, with Devan Gregory leading the way with a team high 22 points. Brandon Pascucci had his best game for the Pride contributing 12 points to go along with four rebounds in the game. Greensboro College pulled down 38 rebounds on the day, with ten of them coming from Edric Roberts. Greensboro College was able to force 27 Barber Scotia miscues, resulting in 22 Pride points on the day.

With the win for Greensboro College, they will move to 5-9 on the season. The Pride men’s basketball team will return to action on Sunday January 19th when the welcome the Lions from Piedmont College to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court. The men’s game is the second half of a USA South double header and is set for a 3:00 pm start time.   1. Greensboro College really has something special with that freshman Devan Gregory.he will only get better. that’s really the way he has been even when he was at Dudley. don’t no why he wasn’t scouted better by D1 or D2 schools. Go devan handle your business.
