Women’s Basketball: Guilford 78, Hollins 38

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford claimed its 18th straight win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Hollins with a 78-38 victory Tuesday night at Ragan Brown Field House. The win upped the Quakers all-time mark against Hollins to 45-2.

Guilford (11-3, 3-2 ODAC) took a few minutes to get untracked. Brittany Drew hit a jumper five minutes into the game which kick started the offense and there was no looking back. The Quakers shared the ball, shot well and pounded the glass, where they held a 51-28 edge.

Additionally, the defense had a very strong night, holding an opponent under 50 points for the eighth time this season.
Guilford extended to a 22-point lead in the first half and took a 34-14 lead into halftime.
With a big lead, coach Stephanie Flamini was able to find lots of minutes for her bench. Nobody played more than 22 minutes and 15 different players saw the court. Four different players scored in double figures in the balanced attack.

Sophomore guard Lila Scott came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points in just 14 minutes. She hit 4-of-7 shots, including 3-of-4 behind the arc. Scott was also a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. The 14 points was a new career-high.

Morgan King chimed in with 13 points while Gabby Oglesby and Brittany Drew each added 10. Oglesby also contributed a team-high six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

Transfer Natalie Henderson, a 6’3 post from Rock Hill, S.C., saw her first action as a Quaker and had two rebounds, an assist and a point in seven minutes.

Defensively, Guilford held Hollins (5-9, 0-5 ODAC) to 20% shooting. Only a big night from the line kept the score as close as it was, as the visitors converted 18 foul shots.

Guilford continues ODAC play in its next game, hosting Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
