HPU Basketball To Host Richard Childress Racing Night On Saturday

HIGH POINT, N.C. — It will be “Richard Childress Racing Night” at the High Point University men’s basketball game vs. UNC Asheville on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Millis Center. Team owner Richard Childress and former HPU students Austin and Ty Dillon will be honored and will be on hand to sign autographs before the game.

Childress and the Dillons will sign autographs for the first 250 fans from 6-7 p.m. in the Millis Center. Austin Dillon’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series No. 3 Cheerios Chevrolet SS and Ty Dillon’s NASCAR Nationwide Series No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro will be on display in front of the Millis Center.

Childress and the Dillons will be honored during the game. There will also be an RCR remote control car race during a timeout. The cars will be driven by RCR pit crew members.

Childress is the president and chief executive officer of Richard Childress Racing, a 14-time championship-winning stock car racing organization. Austin Dillon was 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion and will drive full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2014. Ty Dillon finished second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2013 and will move up to the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season.

Richard Childress Racing is synonymous with success and championships with the legendary Dale Earnhardt and the famed black No. 3 Chevrolet. RCR has earned 14 championships, more than 200 victories, and was the first organization to win titles in NASCAR’s three main series.

Both Austin and Ty Dillon are former High Point University students.

High Point has won two games in a row heading into Wednesday’s road game at VMI in Lexington, Va. The Panthers were picked No. 1 in the Big South Preseason Poll.
