Elon Women’s Basketball Phoenix Meets Terriers in Education Day Game Monday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (8-11, 4-4 SoCon) continues its two-game road trip with an Education Day game at Wofford (4-14, 2-6 SoCon) on Monday, Jan. 27. Tip is set for 11:30 a.m. at Spartanburg, S.C.

Last Time Out
Elon dropped a heartbreaker in its last game as Furman took a 66-65 win after a three with nine seconds left on the clock. The Phoenix was able to break a tie with just over a minute remaining with a three by Lauren Brown but the Paladins grabbed the victory in the end. Brown scored a team-high 15 points, while Jenifer Rhodes (14 points), Sam Coffer (13 points) and Kelsey Harris (11 points) all scored in double figures.

Scouting the Terriers
Wofford picked up its second conference win of the season on Saturday with a 76-70 overtime win over UNCG. The Terriers average 56.6 points per game and have two players scoring consistently in double figures. Jordan Frazier is scoring 12.9 points per game, while Logan Morris is posting 11.3 points/game.

The Series
Monday marks the 22nd meeting between the Phoenix and the Terriers in the series that is now a decade old. Elon leads, 13-8, in the series and is the winner of the last seven straight games, including a 67-57 victory in Spartanburg in January 2013.

The 1,000-Point Club
Kelsey Harris is on her way to becoming the 20th member of Elon women’s basketball’s 1,000-point club. The senior currently has 923 career points, leaving her just 77 shy of the elite mark. The Gastonia, N.C., native is averaging 12.5 points per game.

Homecoming
Monday’s game in Benjamin Johnson Arena will be a familiar setting for Elon’s Director of Women’s Basketball Operations Kate Dempsey. Dempsey, who is in her second season with the Phoenix, played center for the Terriers from 2005-09.

Elon returns home to Alumni Gym next weekend to host local rival UNCG on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
