Brittany Clency Honored as A-Sun Player of the Week by College Sports Madness

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate sophomore guard Brittany Clency(Western Guilford High School) has been named the Atlantic Sun Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness after leading the Spartans to two victories on the road last week against North Florida and Jacksonville.

She becomes the second straight Spartan to earn the honor from College Sports Madness as Alex Stanford received the recognition last week.

Clency averaged 19.0 points per game last week as Upstate ran its winning streak to five games for the first time since the 2009-10 season. She also added 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 block per game for the Spartans. Clency also made her mark at the free-throw line going 18-of-19 for a 94.7% clip.

She began the week by scoring a career-high 20 points in Upstate’s 62-51 win at North Florida last Thursday. Clency pulled down five rebounds to go with three assists, two blocks and one steal in 35 minutes of action. She set a new career-high at the charity stripe by going 9-for-9. Clency followed with a game-high 18 points during the 66-58 victory Saturday at Jacksonville where she tied her career-high of nine made free-throws on 10 attempts to go with three assists and two rebounds.

This season, Clency is second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game and leads the team with 41 total assists. She ranks first on the team offensively in A-Sun games pouring in 12.9 points per game.

The Spartans return home for the first of three straight games beginning Thursday night against Stetson at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
