College Women’s Basketball Final – Randolph-Macon 80, Guilford 74

ASHLAND, Va. – Taylor Huber scored a game-high 26 points and Katie Anderson tallied all 15 of her points in the second half of Randolph-Macon College’s 80-74 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over Guilford College Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets (18-5, 11-3 ODAC) rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to split the season series with Guilford (16-6, 8-5 ODAC) and secure a top-four seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament.

Guilford’s Gabby Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) scored 13 of her team-high 16 points and the Quakers shot 57.1% from the floor to take a 45-33 halftime lead. Guilford’s advantage remained at 12 points after a Sarah Burnick basket with 11:15 left in regulation made the score 61-49.

The Yellow Jackets gradually chipped away and pulled to within 63-60 on a Sarah Parsons’ layup with 8:38 to play. Randolph-Macon’s run continued as Guilford went over six minutes without a field goal and momentum shifted to the hosts. Parsons’ layup with 3:41 remaining gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game, 69-68. She contributed six points to the decisive 24-7 run over a nine-minute, 19-second span. Huber, the ODAC’s leading scorer, had the hot hand with all 13 of her second-half points during the run.

After shooting just 28.6% from the floor in the first half, Randolph-Macon connected on 48.5% of its second-half shots against one of the nation’s top defenses. Huber made only six-of-20 field goals, but connected on 11-of-12 free throws and three three-pointers. Anderson added a team-high eight rebounds to her 15 second-half points and Parsons finished with 13 markers. The Yellow Jackets had 16 offensive rebounds, which led to 21 second-chance points.

Morgan King joined Oglesby with a team-high 16 points for Guilford. Oglesby also had a game-best 12 rebounds and four blocks. Brittany Drew (Greensboro, N.C./Page) contributed 15 points, four assists and two steals. Teammate Kayla Adams (Rural Hall, N.C./North Forsyth) chipped in with 11 points and four assists.

The Quakers host Emory & Henry College Monday (2/17) at 7:00 p.m. in an ODAC game rescheduled from Feb. 12 because of snow.
