DiIanni Leads Elon Men’s Golf Phoenix in First Spring Tournament

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Elon men’s golf team wrapped up its first spring tournament of the year, the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, by shooting a final-round 299 on its way to a two-day score of 900 (294-307-299). The score placed the Phoenix in a tie for seventh in the 17-team event.

Pacing the maroon and gold was Will DiIanni who finished in a fourth-place tie out of 90 individuals. He shot a one-under 71 over his final 18 holes and tallied a three-round score of 221 (71-79-71). Will DiIanni finished with 11 birdies, tied for the second-most in the tournament.

Just two strokes back in a tie for ninth with a score of 223 (76-73-74) was Jonathan DiIanni. He had one eagle.

Troy Beaver’s 227 (73-77-77) placed him in a tie for 31st. Beaver tallied 36 pars.

Elon’s contingent also included Jeff Krieger who shot a 231 (74-80-77) to tie for 44th and Jack Adkins who posted a 241 (77-78-86) to finish 74th.

VCU’s Adam Ball claimed medalist honors with a 212 (73-73-66), edging out Presbyterian’s Davis Parker by one stroke.

USC Aiken captured the team title with a score of 888 (297-296-295). Just one shot back was Presbyterian (300-301-288–889).

Charleston Southern (894) placed third and VCU (895) finished fourth. Radford and Austin Peay tied for fifth with an 898.

Elon’s next event is the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate which will be played in Aiken, S.C., March 10-11.
