Elon Phoenix Men Golfers Tied for Third Through Two Rounds at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Led by Jonathan DiIanni’s 149 (76-73), the Elon men’s golf team opened its spring season by carding a two-round score of 601 (294-307) to sit in a tie for third place following day one of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.

Over the course of his 36 holes, Jonathan DiIanni posted 25 pars. His 149 has him tied for 12th among the 90 participants.

Just one stroke back in a tie for 18th are a pair of Elon golfers. Both Will DiIanni and Troy Beaver finished day one with scores of 150. Will DiIanni got to 150 with rounds of 71 and 79 and carded seven birdies, tied for the third-most in the tournament on day one. Beaver posted rounds of 73 and 77 and notched 24 pars.

Jeff Krieger’s mark of 154 (74-80) has him tied for 37th with one round to play. Krieger also posted seven pars.

Rounding out the field for the maroon and gold was Jack Adkins who shot a 155 (77-78) and will enter the final round in a tie for 47th. Adkins recorded 24 pars.

Presbyterian’s Davis Parker was the lone player to post a sub-par score through the first two rounds. Parker leads the field with a one-under 143 (71-72).

USC Aiken leads the 17-team field with a two-round score of 593 (297-296). Six strokes back is Charleston Southern (299-300–599).

Elon is tied for third with Presbyterian (300-301) at 601 and has a one-stroke edge over fifth-place Radford (306-296–602).

The only other Southern Conference team in the field is Wofford. The Terriers shot a 608 (308-300) and sit 10th.
