College Baseball Final – Guilford 14, Maine-Presque Isle 4

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Danny Ditota went three-for-three with three runs batted in and rookie Chase Shuford fanned seven in his first college start as Guilford College downed visiting University of Maine-Presque Isle Wednesday at McBane Field. The win completed a three-game sweep of the two-day series with the Owls (0-4).

Shuford struck out the first four Owls he faced and had five strikeouts after two innings. With Guilford leading, 6-01, he gave way to Justin Jordan with runners on the corners and two outs in the fourth. Jordan got Alex Csiernik to hit into an inning ending double play.

Jordan (1-0) earned the victory in relief and helped his cause at the plate with two hits and two RBI. The Quakers banged out 20 hits, including Scott Schwartz’s first college homer, a two-run shot in the eighth.

Guilford hosts Frankin & Marshall College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Case Western Reserve at 2:00 p.m.
