Elon Track and Field Concludes Final Day at Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Elon University track and field team concluded its indoor regular season on the final day of the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 22, inside the Rector Field House.

“We had some great performances and are really looking good as we head into the Southern Conference Championships next weekend,” said Elon head track and field coach Mark Elliston. “Overall we are staying focused on training this next week to do our best for the league championship meet.”

Among the highlights of the day, sophomore Megan Kirschling finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5’8” (1.73m). Haley Laird cleared the bar at 5’4” (1.63m) to finish 11th overall in the event.

The three members that competed in the 400-meter dash (Jennifer Espositio, Jennifer Pash and Bria Bell) ran their best times of the season. Esposito led the way with a time of 56.09, the second-fastest in school history, crossing the line in 11th overall. Pash was the next Phoenix runner to finish in 13th with her personal-record of 56.70. Bell also had a personal-best with a time of 57.03.

Jennifer Jarvis was the top thrower for Elon in the shot put with a toss of 37’6.5” (11.44m) and was 11th overall.

The Phoenix returns to competition next weekend at the 2014 SoCon Indoor Championships at the JDL Fast Track Complex at Winston-Salem, N.C.
