Elon Women’s Tennis Breezes to Sweep of Radford

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team eased to a 7-0 sweep of the Radford Highlanders today, Feb. 22, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center for its third straight victory.

“We did a really good job today against Radford,” said Elon head coach Elizabeth Anderson. “We finally got some good weather, we had USTA Kids Day and we played smart tennis. It’s a good day and good win for us with conference right around the corner.”

Elon jumped on the Highlanders quickly in taking the doubles point. The pairing of Bryn Khoury and Taylor Casey soundly beat Taylor Fay and Gisela Garcia on court No. 3, 8-1, then Frida Jansaker and Maria Camara Ruiz topped Grace Sarver and Meg Napolitano with a 8-3 win on court No. 2 to collect the doubles point for the Phoenix.

Khoury kept the match rolling for the Phoenix with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court No. 3 against Sarver. Tolley Ricewon her third straight individual match to start her collegiate career on court No. 5, 6-0, 6-2, against Fay to extend the Elon lead to 3-0.

In her first singles action of the season, Viviana Stavreva clinched the match for the Phoenix with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court No. 6 against Garcia.

Jordan Johnston secured her third consecutive individual win on court No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-0 defeat of Gemma Valls. She was shortly followed by Casey, who held off a hard-charging Napolitano on court No. 4 to earn a 6-1, 7-5 victory.

Barbora Lazarova finished the sweep with a come-from-behind 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 victory on court No. 2 over Taylor Newman.

Elon’s next match comes Wednesday, Feb. 26, against UNC Charlotte at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Phoenix and 49ers are set to get underway at 2 p.m. The match is Elon’s final nonconference match before Georgia Southern visits for the start of Southern Conference action.
