Gregory Leads Greensboro College Pride Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team Members

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) – The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2013-14 All-Conference awards for men’s basketball. A total of 25 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams. Maryville’s Jaumonee Byrd was named Player of the Year while his coach, Randy Lambert earned Coach of the Year honors. Greensboro College’s Devan Gregory collected Rookie of the Year accolades to round out the individual awards. Finally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team consisting of one member from each competing school. All awards are voted on by the men’s basketball coach at each institution.

Gregory, a Greensboro, North Carolina freshman guard, led all USA South rookies by averaging 15.0 points per game during regular season play. He also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per contest this season. His 80.7 free-throw percentage currently ranks second in the Conference while his 375 points scored rank seventh in the League. During Conference-action only, Gregory ranked in the top-five in field goals, free throws, free throw percentage, points scored and points per game. For his efforts, Gregory collected second team All-Conference honors and earned USA South Rookie of the Week accolades five times this winter.

Pride senior Damian Dixon was tabbed to the third team all-conference during his final campaign with the Pride. Dixon was second on the team behind Gregory averaging 13.2 points per game, to go along with 5.9 rebounds in 21 games. Raheem Martin was the third player named to the teams, earning all-sportsmanship honors.

Byrd, a Douglasville, Georgia sophomore forward, becomes the first Maryville men’s basketball player to earn USA South Player of the Year honors. Byrd nearly averaged a double-double during the regular season as he posted 18.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. His scoring output currently ranks fourth in the Conference while his rebounding numbers rank third in the League. Byrd has scored in double-figures in every this season while posting ten double-doubles. He earns his first career all-conference honor, garnering first team accolades this season. Finally, Byrd accumulated two USA South Player of the Week honors this winter.

Lambert, in his 34th season as the head of the Scots, earns his first USA South Coach of the Year honor. After being picked to finish in first place in the Preseason USA South Coaches Poll, Lambert’s team met expectations as Maryville posted a 13-1 league mark and earned the program’s first USA South Regular Season Championship. The Scots currently hold an 18-7 over record and are one win away from collecting the most wins in a season since the 2009-10 squad won 23 contests. Lambert now takes his team into the USA South Men’s Basketball Tournament as the top seed and host.
