College Indoor Track and Field Results – Guilford Competes at ODAC Championships

HAMPTON, Va.—Guilford College’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Va. Sunday afternoon. The men finished eighth with 10 points while the women finished with no team score.

Joe Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) scored six of the ten points for the Quakers, placing fourth in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 7.03 seconds, scoring four points. Mitchell qualified for the finals with a time of 6.92 seconds, the Quakers’ season-best in the event. Mitchell’s qualifying time was tied for the second-fastest overall mark, just .02 seconds off the top qualifying time. The freshman also claimed two more points in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.10 seconds, finishing fifth in the race for the Quakers’ season-best mark in the event.

Andris Goncarovs claimed four points for the Quakers in the 3,000 meter run with a fourth place finish. The senior’s time (8:48:87) is the second-best for the Quakers this season and 4.77 seconds off the season-best and school record, set by classmate Chad Norton earlier this year.

Norton (16:03.77) finished in seventh place in the 5,000 meter run.

Jonathan Sumner ran the Quakers’ fastest 400 meter time of the season with a mark of 53.11 seconds, good for 16th place.

The 4×400 meter team of Joe Mitchell, Ayellor Karbah, Sumner, and Clarence Turpin ran the best Quaker time in the event this season with a mark of 3:37.93.

Kaylea Trogdon (Archdale, N.C./Wheatmore) ran the season-best time in the 60 meter dash qualifier with a time of 8.72 seconds, good for 13th place and the second fastest in school history. Trogdon also finished with the Quakers’ second-best mark of the season in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.07 seconds, narrowly missing her own team season-best mark by .03 seconds. Her mark also stands third all-time in school history.

Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) ran the Quakers’ second-best mile run result of the season with a time of 5:46.02, finishing seventh place in the event.

Jasmine O’Neill (1:08.51) finished the 400 meter dash with the Quakers’ second-best time of the season, missing the best time by .5 seconds.

The Quakers’ 4×400 meter relay team of O’Neill, Sydney MacDonald (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford), Reyna, and Tess Stryk finished with the Quakers’ season-best finish in the event with a time of 4:33.12, setting the school record in the event by 6.63 seconds.

Guilford transitions to the outdoor track and field season, competing in the Wake Forest Open at Wake Forest University March 21-22.
