Elon Women’s Lacrosse Set to Face #1 UNC and Campbell This Week

ELON, N.C. – Winners of three straight, the Elon women’s lacrosse team will play two more road games this week. The Phoenix will make the short trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., face top-ranked North Carolina on Wednesday, March 12, at 2:30 p.m. before taking on Campbell on Saturday, March 15, at 2 p.m. in Buies Creek, N.C.

Looking Back
Elon posted two victories last week to extend its current wining streak to three and record some more firsts for the rookie program. The Phoenix claimed its first conference win with a 9-8 victory over Detroit in Rhodes Stadium before a 12-10 final at Coastal Carolina for its first road win of the season. Molly Garrigan had a strong week for the Phoenix, tallying six points after four goals and two assists. Sydney Hesselbein also scored four goals on the week, while Sloane Kessler posted four assists along with one goal.

Defensive Player of the Week
On March 10, Rachel Ramirez was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The freshman recorded 23 saves and a 56.7 save percentage with a 2-0 record between the pipes. The Lindenhurst, N.Y., native also collected five ground balls, while holding opponents to only nine goals per game.

Looking Ahead
Elon will return home next week to host Longwood on Wednesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Rhodes Stadium. The Phoenix will then close out the week at Davidson on Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m.
