The Women’s Basketball Team from Guilford Technical Community College fell just short of a Region X Title and a trip to the Sweet 16 in Over Land Park, Kansas by losing to defending National Champion Louisburg College 77 – 67 in the Region X Championship Game.

GTCC defeated Brunswick Community College in the Quarterfinal game 66 – 46. Marcianna Munn (Fayetteville 71st) was huge for the Titans with 14 points and 6 assists.

In the Semifinal Game GTCC defeated Catawba Valley by a score of 69 – 47. GTCC played perhaps their best defensive game of the year holding CVCC far below their seasons average. Bria Byrd (HP Andrews) had 13 points to lead GTCC. Shannon Buchanan (SW Guilford) had 8 points and 11 rebounds but more importantly did a great job on Region X Palyer of the Year Kadesha Gibbs, holding her to just 7 points. Brittnee Roberts (Forestview) had 12 points and 5 steals for the Titans.

The defense that had been so good the first 2 days let GTCC down in the Championship Game. GTCC and Louisburg had split their Regular Season games this year as GTCC won by 14 and Louisburg won by 4. This time GTCC had a hard time containing Louisburg’s guards and that led to the higher than usual point total against the Titans. Jasmine Rawl (Denbigh) led GTCC in the Title Game with 14 points. Also in double figures were Bria Byrd, Marcianna Munn and Brittnee Roberts. Nyla Allen (Smith) provided a huge spark in the Championship Game with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals.

The Titans finish the season with an overall record of 26 wins and 6 losses. They finished 2nd in the Carolina’s-Virginia Conference and Runners-Up in the Region X Tournament. Carnique Marks (Western Guilford) was voted to the All-Region X Team. Bria Byrd, Shannon Buchanan, Marcianna Munn and Nyla Allen were all named to the Region X All-Tournament Team.
