Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate guard Brittany Clency(Western Guilford High School) has been selected Second Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference as voted on by the league’s coaches, it was announced Monday afternoon.

Clency earns her first career All-Conference accolade after leading the Spartan offense this season with 11.5 points and 2.6 assists per game. She has appeared in 27 games and started in 22 of them at the guard position. The sophomore also had 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 40.1% from the field and 35.8% from three-point range.

The Greensboro, N.C. native posted double figure scoring games 19 times in 2013-14 including each of the final 10 games of the regular season. Clency scored a career-high 20 points on Jan. 30 at North Florida en route to being named A-Sun Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. She pulled down a career-high eight rebounds on Dec. 7 in a one-point victory at UNC Asheville. Clency dished out seven or more assists four times highlighted by a career-best nine at home versus Stetson.

She ranks eighth in the conference in assists with a total of 71. In conference play, Clency is fifth in minutes played, sixth in assists and eighth in scoring.

Upstate begins A-Sun Tournament play Tuesday evening when it hosts sixth-seeded East Tennessee State at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN3.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Senior center Catrina Green (Greensboro, N.C.) has been named to the Big South All-Conference Second Team for the second time in her career while also earning a spot on the league’s All-Academic Team, announced conference officials Sunday.

Green has put together one of the finest individual careers in program history over the last four years, becoming the first player in the school’s Division I era to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds with a 24-point, 14-rebound performance in her final game in Paul Porter Arena on Saturday.

A native of Greensboro, N.C., Green is in the midst of perhaps her best season as a Runnin’ Bulldog, averaging career-highs of 14.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while knocking down 56.3 percent of her attempts from the floor. The senior center as totaled 1,232 points, 1,004 rebounds, 161 blocks and 101 steals in her career, ranking first all-time in boards, second in blocks and 12th in scoring.

Green is just two points shy of moving into a tie for 11th on the program’s all-time scoring list, and 14 away from becoming the first player to crack the top 10 since current assistant coach Dominique Hudson accomplished the feat in 2011. The two-time all-conference selection has been named Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week three times this season, receiving her third such honor earlier Sunday.

  1. With a few exceptions, there seems to be more girls performing well in college basketball from this area than boys. I am not sure if its because we just don’t hear enough about either but this area does produce some successful female players in the mid D1 level schools.
