College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Sixth at Panther Invitational

PALM BAY, Fla. – Tournament host Florida Institute of Technology rallied to win the Panther Invitational men’s golf tournament Tuesday at the Majors Golf Club.

The Panthers erased a five-shot deficit after 36 holes by shooting 297 in Tuesday’s third and final round for a total of 894. St. Leo University, the 36-hole leader, shot 304 and finished two strokes off the lead with a three-round total of 896.

Guilford College, the lone NCAA Division III team in the six-team field, shot 327-312-315-954 to finish sixth.

Monday leader Ray Badenhorst won individual medalist honors by shooting an even-par 72 Tuesday and finishing with a 76-65-72-213. Teammate Bret Krog, playing for the Panthers’ B team, came in second place at 72-70-77-219. The Panthers’ Justin Kalanquin had Tuesday’s low round and placed third with a 77-75-71-223.

Guilford junior Mitch Robinette, playing as an individual, had the top finish among eight Quakers in the 40-man field. He shot 75-75-82-232 for a share of 14th place. Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Home School) had the low score among Guilford’s team scorers with an 84-70-85-239. Teammate Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) was a shot back in 26th place after shooting 83-78-79-240. Senior Dallas Page (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County (Averett)) shot Guilford’s low score Tuesday (76) and shared 29th place with teammate Nick Shedd with three-round scores of 242.

Coach Corey Maggard’s team, ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Division III Golfstat.com Relative Rankings, returns to action Mar. 27-29 at the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
