Covenant Takes Series From Greensboro College Pride Baseball

GREENSBORO, NC—The Greensboro College baseball team wrapped a three game series up with the Scots of Covenant on Saturday afternoon with a double header. The Pride dropped game one of the double dip 29-4 before dropping the final game of the series 13-4.

Covenant pushed out to an 11-0 lead after two trips to the plate before the Pride got on the board in the bottom half of the third inning. JP Lisk collected a two out double down the right field line, before Jon Krecicki plated Lisk from third base making the score 11-1. The Scots then added nine runs in the top of the fourth inning pushing their lead to 20-1.

Greensboro responded with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning making the score 20-4. James Feldmann led of the inning with a single before coming around to score on a single by Andrew Hernandez making the score 20-2. Later in the inning, Bradeon Jewett picked up an RBI of his own with a single before Kyle Willard came around scoring on a Scots miscue pulling Greensboro to within 20-4.

The Scots then scored nine more times in route to the 29-4 victory. The Pride collected nine hits in the game with JP Lisk, Kyle Willard, and Jon Krecicki leading the way with two hits a piece. Braedon Jewett, Andrew Hernandez, and Krecicki each recorded an RBI in the game.

In the second half of the double dip, Covenant once again was able to jump on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs taking the early 2-0 lead. The Pride was got one of the runs back in the home half of the second inning when Kyle Williard slid past the tag at the plate off a Feldmann single pulling the Pride to within 2-1.

After Greensboro pulled to within one run, before Covenant pushed across eight unanswered run extending the deficit to 10-1. The Pride got on the board in the sixth with three runs.

Blake Throneburg doubled to right field scoring Krecicki and Soden getting to within 10-3. The final run of the inning came off an error by the second basemen making it 10-4. However, Covenant answered right back with a single run in the seventh, eighth, and ninth pushing out to a 13-4 margin. The Pride would get two runners on in the bottom half the ninth inning but could not get anything across falling by the 13-4 final.

With the losses, the Pride falls to 2-16 on the season and 1-13 in USA South play. The Pride baseball team will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they play host to cross town rival Guilford College. The first pitch is set for 6:00 PM.
