GC Women’s Lacrosse Pride Rally Comes Up Short at Meredith

RALEIGH, NC—The Greensboro College Pride women’s lacrosse team fell to Meredith College on Saturday afternoon 12-11.

The Pride got on the board first just 1:03 into the opening period of play with Kirstin Norris scored on a free position goal putting Greensboro up 1-0. After Greensboro took the early lead, the Angels were able to find the back of the net tying the game at 1-1; Greensboro was able to respond back retaking the lead 3-1 following two unanswered goals.

Once Greensboro took the 3-1 lead, Meredith was able to climb back into the game taking the lead 4-3 following three goals of their own. The Pride once again was able to jump back into the lead 6-4 following two goals by Alexa Besch and a goal by Kelsey Cenate. The Angles was able to score the last goal of the period and go into the brake trailing the Pride 6-5.

Coming out of the break Meredith tied the game just forty seconds into the new period before Norris tallied two more times pushing the Pride back in front 8-6. The Angels then scored four straight goals pulling back into the lead 10-8 before Norris struck again pulling Greensboro to within 10-9. The Angles were able to extend their lead to 12-9 before a Greensboro rally came up just short falling 12-11.

Norris led the way for the Pride with six goals, while Besch added three goals. Kaleigh Hemstock took the loss in goal for Greensboro despite stopping 10 Angel’s shots.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 6-4 on the season and 3-2 in USA South Conference action. The Greensboro women’s lacrosse team will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to take on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan. The first draw is set for 2:00 PM.
