College Baseball Final – Roanoke 9, Guilford 4

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Roanoke College’s Kevin Oakey went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a home run as the Maroons took an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win from Guilford College Wednesday afternoon, 9-4.

Oakey’s three RBI came in the top of the third inning, which capped a six-run rally for the Maroons. Oakey connected on a home run to right field to pull the Maroons ahead, 6-0.

Grayson Tuttle collected one of the three RBI for the Quakers in the bottom of the fourth inning on a ground out. Corey Wallace went 2-for-3 and contributed to the Quakers’ two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning with a RBI-single. Wallace reached base in all but one plate appearance, including two walks. John Macon Smith (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) drove in the Quakers’ final run in the bottom of the ninth with a ground out, finishing the game 2-for-5.

Herc Ingels was the lone Quaker with three hits, finishing the day 3-for-5 and reaching base in all but one at-bat.

Nick Blackwood (Greensboro, N.C./Wesleyan Christian Academy) (0-1) took the loss giving up four runs on four hits while striking out two batters in two and one-third innings. Chad Wagoner threw two innings of scoreless relief in the sixth and seventh frames, striking out two batters. Andrew Martin threw the final two-thirds innings, fanning one.

The Quakers (10-13, 4-3 ODAC) return to action on McBane Field tomorrow afternoon, facing cross-town rival Greensboro College at 3 p.m.
