College Men’s Golf Final – Guilford Fourth at MFCU Intercollegiate

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Oglethorpe University claimed its second consecutive Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Championship Sunday at the waterlogged Paradise Point Golf Course.

The Stormy Petrels shot 304 on the par-72, 6,883-yard Gold Course Sunday for a two-round total of 575. They finished two shots ahead of Thomas (Ga.) University and Methodist University, which both shot 577.

Guilford College played the par-70, 5,911-yard Scarlet Course Sunday and shot 277 for a two-round total of 580. The Quakers, who shot 303 on the Gold Course Friday, placed fourth in the 32-team field.

Oglethorpe’s Anthony Maccaglia took home medalist honors with a 63-75-138. Webber International University’s Stuart Winsby (68-71) won a scorecard playoff with Bridgewater College’s Tyler Weeks (75-64) after both students finished with matching 139.

Freshman Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) led Guilford with a 75-66-141 that placed eighth in the field. Classmate Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) was one stroke back in 12th place with a 73-69-142. Senior Dallas Page (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County (Averett)) placed 42nd after shooting 77-71-148, one shot better than teammate Drew Thompson’s 78-71-149. Mitch Robinette rounded out Guilford’s contestants by shooting 83-75-158 for a share of 109th place.

The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes but shortened to 36 due to heavy rains over the weekend.
