SALEM, Va.—Roanoke College’s Will Decker went 6-for-6 in the Maroons’ 12-10 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Guilford College Wednesday Night.
Three of Decker’s six hits were doubles with two of those extra-base hits driving in runs. Decker finished the night with five RBI.
Both teams traded four-run rallies in the first inning with the Maroons (8-11, 3-7 ODAC) adding another four-run rally in the third inning. Roanoke took a 10-4 lead after four frames before the Quakers countered with a five-run fifth inning.
Michael Whited (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) boosted the Quakers’ four-run rally to start the game in the top of the first inning with a three-RBI double into right center field.
John Macon Smith (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) finished the night 2-for-4 with five RBI. Smith hit a grand slam for his third home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning to bolster the Quaker five-run rally in the inning.
Corey Wallace went 2-for-5 with a solo home run to left field for his team leading eighth home run of the season in the top of the seventh.
Roanoke’s Lucas Nowlin went 1-for-4 with 3 RBI, including a two-RBI single in the bottom of third inning. Kevin Oakey went 3-for-5 with two doubles and added a RBI in the third inning rally.
Andrew Martin and Justin Jordan both held Roanoke to just one hit in the final two innings. Martin threw one and a third innings, striking out two batters, while Jordan threw the final two-thirds of an inning, fanning one batter.
The Quakers (11-16, 4-8 ODAC) return to action tomorrow afternoon at Averett University for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
