Elon’s Oram, Novotna Set School Track & Field Records at Stanford Invite

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Allyson Oram and sophomore Tereza Novotna set new school records in the 10,000-meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively, as the pair represented the Elon University women’s track and field team at the prestigious Stanford Invitational on Friday night, April 4, at the Cobb Track and Angell Field complex.

“It was a very successful trip to Stanford as both Tereza and Ally raced well,” said Elon head cross country and assistant track and field coach Christine Engel. “Competing alongside some of the top runners in the nation, they both came away with new personal and school records. We certainly look to build upon these performances as we move closer to the Southern Conference championships in three weeks.”

Novotna clocked in a time of 10:33.40 in the race and was eighth overall in her flight. The Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, native broke her personal-best by nearly eight seconds in the race.

Oram broke her previous program mark in the 10,000-meters with her new personal-best time of 34:49.59, nearly a minute faster than her former best. Both Oram’s and Novotna’s times are the fastest on the conference’s outdoor performance list this season.

Elon also had members of its throwing team compete yesterday on the first day at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational in Lynchburg Va. Senior Kimberlyn Holt was the Phoenix’s top finisher in the hammer throw with toss of 158’10” (48.41m), good for sixth overall. Jennifer Jarvis had a throw of 111’2” (33.88m) in the javelin thrown, also finishing sixth.

The remainder of the team will compete today on the second and final day at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational.
