GC Pride Softball Drops Two To Piedmont College

DEMOREST, GA—The Greensboro College Pride softball team dropped two games to host Piedmont College on Sunday afternoon wrapping up the USA South regular season slate. The Pride fell 6-1 in the first game before falling in game two 8-2.

In the first game of the day, the Pride got on the board first when Alexis Hall came in to score following a Jackie Nicholson sacrifice fly putting the Pride up early 1-0. Piedmont College however responded back with two runs in the bottom half of the third inning taking the lead 2-1. Greensboro College was able to tie the game in the fifth inning when Kierstin McKenna singled home Sarah Tompkins tying the game at 2-2. Once Greensboro tied the game, the Lions the scored the game’s final six runs for the 8-2 victory.

Sarah Tompkins had two of the six Greensboro College hits in the first game while Alexis Hall, Nicholson, Allyson Yeager, and McKenna also added one hit. Shelby Drummonds took the loss in the first game tossing five innings giving up seven runs with five of which being earned.

After dropping game, the Pride got on the board first once again in game two but fell by a 6-1 decision.

With the two losses, the Pride wrap of the regular season with a 19-16 overall record and 12-10 in USA South play. The Pride has earned the number six seed in the upcoming USA South Spring Sports Festival in Rocky Mount, NC. The Pride will play their first game of the festival on Friday morning at 11:00 am against Averett University. The Pride split two games with the Cougars just over one week ago.
