Late Goal Lifts GC Men’s Lacrosse To 14-13 Victory

FERRUM, VA — Charles String fellow found the back of the net with just 1:57 left to play at Ferrum College giving Greensboro the 14-13 victory. With the win, the Pride has now won three straight, and four of their last five contests.

Alexander Vanderhoff gave Greensboro College a early 1-0 lead in the opening quarter, before Scott Showalter fed both Blaine Wise and Charles Stringfellow extending the lead to 3-0. Once Greensboro extended out to the three goal lead, Ferrum the tallied two straight times to pull within one goal at 3-2. Two minutes after the Panthers pulled to within one, Showalter scored his first goal of the day taking the score to 4-2 in favor of the Pride. Ferrum was able to send the game into the second period only trailing by one at 4-3.

Senior James Furlow found the back of the net just 18 seconds into the second period to extend the lead back to two goals at 5-3. However, the Panther came back with four straight goals taking the lead at 7-5. Greensboro College was able to add one final goal in the half, as Brodies Ceperich took the feed from Furlow to close the game to 7-6 heading into the break.

After the intermission period, Ferrum came out with two goals establishing their largest lead of the game at 9-6. Following the two opening goals of the third period, Brodie Ceperich and Ryan Kissner each recorded man up goals bringing Greensboro back to within one goal at 9-8 yet Ferrum answered back with to more goals taking a 11-8 lead. Scott Showalter then recorded his second goal of the game bringing Greensboro to within 11-9, but Ferrum tallied once again taking a 12-9 lead into the final period of play.

In the fourth period of play, the Pride offense came to life finding the back of the net five times. Jaegar Carlyle, Scott Showalter, Alexnder Vanderhoff, and Brodie Ceperich each added a goal in the first half of the period to give Greensboro the lead once again at 13-12. Ferrum College tied the game once again at 13-13 with five minutes left to play, but String fellow tallied the game winning goal with 1:57 remaining to play in the game.

Greensboro College outshot the Panthers in the contest 50-35, as Jaeger Carlyle led the way with eight shots to go along with seven shots by Scott Showalter and Brodie Cerperich. Faceoff guy Gianni Gonzalez won 22 of the 23 Greensboro College faceoff wins, and picked up a Greensboro College record 20 groundballs. Matt Dittemore started the game for the Pride stopping six Panthers shots while Jesse Duczeminskyi picked up the win in goal.

With the win, the Greensboro College men’s lacrosse team wraps up their 2014 campaign with three straight wins finishing up at 5-7.
