College Men’s Golf News – Guilford’s Tanner Gross Wins ODAC Golfer of the Week Award

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) collected his team-leading third Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award Monday. The Quakers have won six of the league’s weekly honors this season.

Gross posted his sixth top-10 individual finish in nine events April 8 with a third-place effort at the rain-shortened Emory Spring Invitational. The Quakers’ rookie shot a two-under-par 70 in the event’s lone round, which helped him secure all-tournament recognition. Gross sparked the Quakers to a share of second place in the 14-team event that featured a number of top-ranked NCAA Division III teams.

The Emory Spring Invitational performance lowered Gross’s team-leading stroke average to 74.7 strokes per round, the ODAC’s third-lowest figure. He has posted Guilford’s low team score in six of the Quakers’ nine events this season.

Coach Corey Maggard’s club is ranked fourth in the April 4 Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll and sixth in the April 9 edition of the Golfstat.com Division III Relative Rankings. Guilford next plays in the ODAC Championships April 27-29 at the Rock Barn Golf Club in Conover, N.C.

Guilford and the Greensboro Sports Commission will co-host the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center May 13-16.
