Elon’s O’Shea Tabbed SoCon Men’s Baseball Pitcher of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon University Softball junior pitcher Caitlin O’Shea was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, April 28.

This is the first career weekly SoCon honor for O’Shea and the third Player/Pitcher of the Week award overall this year for Elon. O’Shea played a part in each of the Phoenix’s three wins last week, allowing only one earned up in 13.0 innings (0.54 ERA) while posting a 2-0 record along with a save.

O’Shea picked up her second save of the season in the Phoenix’s 7-2 win over North Carolina Central on last Wednesday, April 23, going 3.0 innings in relief with a strikeout. She went 7.0 innings in the Phoenix’s 6-1 victory over Samford on Saturday, April 26, giving up one run while fanning two batters. She earned the win in relief in the maroon and gold’s rubber match against the Bulldogs on Sunday, April 27, going 3.0 innings while striking out one and walking one in Elon’s 3-2 victory in extras.

O’Shea’s save against N.C. Central was the third in her career, moving her into a tie for fourth all-time at Elon. Her two saves this season is also the most that a Phoenix pitcher has had in a single-season since older sister Erin O’Shea also had two in 2012.

The Phoenix closes out its regular-season this weekend with a three-game series at local rival UNCG on May 2-3.
