HPU Volleyball Adds Two Recruits for 2014

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Head coach Jason Oliver of the High Point University volleyball team announced two additions to the team for the 2014 season on Wednesday. Setter Carly Jimenez and defensive specialist Amy Pilat will join the Panthers next season.

“Carly and Amy have everything we look for in student-athletes at High Point University,” Oliver said. They are both very talented, smart and love HPU. I know they are both ready to compete for a conference championship and they will add a lot of depth to our team. I look forward to working hard every day to help them be the best student-athletes they can be.”

Jimenez is a setter from St. Charles, Ill. She was an All-Conference selection for the past two years at St. Charles East High School and earned a spot on the first team as a senior. Jimenez was also an All-State and All-Area honoree. She helped St. Charles East to conference championships in 2011 and 2013 and the team finished third in the state in 2011. Jimenez has also played for Club Fusion for the last five years.

Pilat comes to High Point from Chagrin Falls, Ohio where she was an All-Conference selection at Kenston High School. Pilat helped her team to the Ohio State Final Four as a sophomore and junior and was named one of the best players in Northeast Ohio for the last three seasons. For the last eight years, Pilat has played with the Cleveland Volleyball Club, the same club team as former High Point middle blocker Michelle Chakirelis. Pilat’s club team has qualified for the USA Junior Olympic Nationals for the last six years.

Jimenez and Pilat join outside hitter Haley Barnes and middle blocker Camryn Freiberg as freshmen on the 2013 HPU volleyball team. The Panthers finished third in the Big South in 2013 with a 16-15 overall record and a 9-5 mark in league play. High Point returns 10 players from the 2013 squad, including All-Big South honorees Chelsea Davis and Kristin Heldt. Big South Freshman of the Year Savannah Angel will also be back for High Point in 2014.
