HiToms Ink Three Former Legion Players for 2014 Season

HIGH POINT-THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms today announce the signing of three players to the 2014 Coastal Plain League roster. Tyler Britton, Pete Guy, and Justin Morrison will don the red, white, and blue for the HiToms this season.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Pete, Justin and Tyler back into the HiToms organization for the 2014 season,” said HiToms GM, Nick Gaski. “All three young men are shining examples of student-athletes and we look forward to their contributions on and off the field this summer.”

Britton, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, has signed to Big South Conference member, High Point University, for the 2015 season. This season at Pitt Community College in Greenville, N.C., he has made 16 appearances with one start, and holds a 3-3 record in 26 innings pitched. The High Point, N.C. native’s 2.77 ERA and 9.69 K/9 ratio both rank third-best on the team. A late addition to last year’s HiToms squad, Britton went four innings and allowed one earned run in his only appearance of the year.

Guy also returns to the HiToms after being added to the roster toward the end of last season, starting seven of the 10 games he appeared in. The sophomore catcher from Winston-Salem, N.C. is the leading power hitter on the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs, with four home runs and a .500 slugging percentage. Guy has driven in 19 runs and currently sports a .358 on base percentage.

Another local son of High Point, N.C., Morrison shouldered a sizable workload for the Guilford College Quakers as he’s third on the team with 33 innings pitched. In 13 appearances and three starts, the junior righty has notched 24 punch-outs, second-best on the team, while allowing less than a hit per inning.

All three players are Post 87 HiToms alumni through the organization’s American Legion program. They, along with the rest of the 2014 roster, will open up the season at home against the Kernersville Bulldogs at Finch Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
