HPU Baseball’s Cas Silber Named National Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Freshman Cas Silber has been named to multiple National Player of the Week lists after setting a new HPU Div. I record with 13 strikeouts in a win over Longwood on Saturday.

Silber was named a Louisville Slugger Player of the Week, as selected by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and an NCAA.com National Player of the Week.

The freshman right-hander pitched a career-high six shutout innings against Longwood, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out 13 to improve to 4-0 on the season. The outing was interrupted after the third inning with a 98-minute rain delay, but Silber came back out following the delay and struck out seven over his final three innings of work. The freshman’s 13 strikeouts best the previous HPU record of 12, which was accomplished five times, last by Bubba O’Donnell in 2008.

Silber has appeared in 20 games with two starts in his first collegiate season and currently ranks among the Big South leaders with a 1.53 ERA and a .196 opponent batting average. He has struck out 47 batters in 47 innings pitched in 2014.

High Point will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, May 13, when the team travels to Greenville, North Carolina to take on East Carolina. First pitch in the game is set for 6 p.m.
