HPU’S Rickert Wins Javelin at Wolfpack Last Chance

RALEIGH, N.C. — Sophomore Christine Rickert won the javelin to lead three competitors at the Wolfpack Last Chance meet on Friday in Raleigh, N.C. She threw the javelin 47.01 meters (154-2).

Rickert’s throw was just off her season best of 47.26 meters (155-1). Her career best is 47.78 meters (156-9), which set the HPU record in 2013.

Junior Leah Anne Wirfel was runner-up in the 5,000-meter in a collegiate-best time of 17:55.38. Prior to this season, her collegiate best was 18:31.92 in 2012. Sophomore Lilla Lorand took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.18.

High Point is wrapping up its outdoor season this weekend, with Rickert in position to qualify for the NCAA Preliminary May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla. Prior to Friday’s action, she was ranked 24th in the East in the javelin. The top 48 entrants qualify in each event.
