MIDWAY EXPLODES FOR 10-3 VICTORY IN FIRST GAME OF 2-A SERIES

GREENSBORO— Midway exploded for six runs in the fifth inning on Friday night to blow open a close game and take a 10-3 victory over Claremont Bunker Hill in the opening game of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A baseball championship series at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The Raiders pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of five Bunker Hill errors en route to the win.

Bunker Hill had grabbed a 3-1 lead in the opening inning, and then the Raiders came back with two in the second to tie it before erupting in the fifth.

Designated hitter Austin Hardison led the way for Midway with three hits in four at-bats and drove home two runs. Tyler Pope had two hits and a pair of runs batted in for the winners and number-nine hitter Troy Spell had an excellent night with two hits.
